Message	"i might just fix it myself and take it out of my rent." This isn't something I'd advise. Subtracting unauthorized upgrades or fixes from your rent will bite you in the ass. The landlord has the upperhand in these situations and you could end up being in court for unpaid rent and have to eat the cost of the "fixes". If the landlord continues to ignore you, use the court system instead of taking it into your own hands.
